The University Heights Service Department performs most of the maintenance duties of the city.
Services available throughout the year include backyard rubbish collection (weekly and bulk), a recycling program with backyard collection, sewer cleaning/repair, street and sidewalk snowplowing, autumn leaf collection, street cleaning/repair, and tree trimming/removal.
University Heights has been awarded Tree City USA status for 23 consecutive years by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The City has planted 4,700 trees representing 39 species on treelawn/parkway areas. These trees are planted during fall months.
A voluntary recycling program, established in the early 1980's, allows residents to recycle #l-#2 plastics, glass, aluminum, tin, steel and newsprint. The recyclable items are picked up with your weekly rubbish.

Free woodchips and firewood are available at the service yard throughout the year depending on availability.
Please do not place anything into the catchbasins around University Heights. Catchbasins are designed to collect and remove rainwater from the streets and are part of the regional storm water sewer system. Water collected in catchbasins travels untreated directly to Lake Erie; placing used motor oil and other hazardous household wastes in catchbasins directly affects the water quality of Lake Erie and the region. Bring used motor oil to the Service Department Garage for disposal.
