The City's Recreation Department is responsible for operating the facilities at Purvis Park and implementing all recreation programs. The Recreation Commissioner and the Pool Aquatic Director oversee more than 50 seasonal employees.
Purvis Park, centrally located in University Heights, offers a range of outdoor recreational pursuits.
Purvis Park
A 10,300 sq. ft. swimming pool, complete with lap swim lanes, baby play area, 30 ft. high water slide, and 3 meter and 10 meter diving boards open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
During summer months, the City sponsors a free Craft Program for children at the Picnic Pavilion. A summertime Story Hour is sponsored by the CH-UH Library, and is also held at the Park.
Tennis play is available on the seven courts at Purvis Park and the four courts at Bellefaire. The City sponsors tennis lessons for all ages, an evening tennis league for adults, and participates in local competitive meets.
