Mission Statement
The mission of the University Heights Fire Department is to protect life and property.
Organization
Twenty-nine firefighters proudly serve the City of University Heights on several levels. As paramedics and emergency medical technicians, UHFD personnel staff two paramedic-equipped rescue squads and respond to both medical and trauma emergencies in the community. Twenty-one paramedics serve under the medical control and license of an Emergency Room physician.
If a fire, hazardous material incident or other disaster should arise where additional manpower or equipment is needed, prearranged agreements with neighboring cities and the county-wide Mutual Aid Box Alarm System enable the City of University Heights to rely on additional resources in handling major emergencies.
The Fire Department serves the community with carbon-monoxide testing, fire prevention planning and consultations, code compliance inspections and a wide range of public education, including CPR classes and fire safety demonstrations. The Fire Department will provide smoke detectors as needed and also change the batteries for elderly or disabled residents.
The Fire Department also has an established Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) made up of Fire Department Personnel and volunteer residents of the City of University Heights.
